So, it appears the government in New Zealand is trying to sneak in its controversial “3-strikes” Internet disconnection law tonight as part of its emergency legislation dealing with the Christchurch earthquake. I’ve witnessed first hand some of the ridiculous disruptions this sort of legislation can do in the UK however the NZ legislation seems to be even more ridiculous.
My initial reaction was fury, however I’ve come down from there. I’ve written an email to my MP, Colin King - not sure what will come of that. If the NZ government wants to handicap it’s online economy then fine, so be it. I’m glad that I’m the UK and doing business over here.
Sure, the UK isn’t perfect either, but rushing through this legislation as part of a reaction to an earthquake crisis is really poor taste. It even out does Mandleson’s efforts.
our MPs don’t know...file-sharing is.
